 Celebrate July 4 in Vermont


Vermont's summers kick off with our Independence Day celebrations statewide. Featuring parades down main street, festivities on town greens, spectacular fireworks, and enough memories to last a lifetime.

Highlights for 2009
Burlington — July 3 - Independence Day Waterfront Celebration,
The Queen City’s Independence Day celebration this year is tied into the Quadricentennial Celebration of Lake Champlain to make it even more exciting! The celebrations include concerts and other festivities at Perkins Pier, North Beach and Waterfront Park, beginning at about 4:00 p.m., and culminating in a grand display of fireworks at 9:30 p.m. http://www.enjoyburlington.com

Montpelier — July 3 – July 3rd Independence Day Celebration
A full day of fun in the Capital City! Starting at 8 AM with a community pancake breakfast, a lawn party at the library, free family day at the public pool, plus live theater, films, live music, a road race, and street parties! The gigantic hour-long parade filled with music, floats and fun starts 6:00 p.m and ends at the State House, which is the best spot for evening fireworks viewing. http://www.mdca.org/home

Brandon – July 4th – Brandon Independence Day Celebration
The Vermont Chamber of Commerce has declared the Brandon Independence Day Celebration as one of the Top Ten Events of the Summer. The day long celebration will be held on July 4th in 2009, the first Saturday of July.  The Parade begins at 1:00 p.m. but the park opens at 9:00 a.m. for activities, games, music, and food. Barton July 4 – Independence Day Celebration at the Fairgrounds.

Jeffersonville and Smuggler's Notch July 4 - Enjoy their signature 4th of July entertainment for families, with a parade and fair in town followed by a barbecue, music by Vermont’s own 40th Army Band and fireworks to conclude the holiday evening. http://www.smuggs.com/

Moscow July 4 – World’s Shortest July 4th Parade
As featured in the New York Times, Moscow’s parade is billed as the world's shortest July 4th parade. Local radio stations provide marching music, and the parade goes up to the end of town, turns around, and marches back again! You can (barely) catch it starting at 10am on July 4.

Shelburne — July 4 - The Vermont Symphony Orchestra at Shelburne Farms.
In celebration of Lake Champlain’s Quadricentennial, the VSO presents a salute to Uncle Sam—Vermont’s own Uncle Sam, that is, Samuel de Champlain, who explored this bordering-on-great lake in 1609. The VSO pays tribute to a Frenchman in America with Gershwin’s “An American in Paris” and a program both Gallic and aquatic: an overture by Berlioz, selections from Les Misérables, Sousa’s Hands Across the Sea March, Handel’s Water Music, and show tunes from South Pacific. Fireworks accompany the 1812 Overture for a dramatic bon soir.

Stowe July 4 – Stowe Independence Day Celebration
Following the Moscow parade, head over to Stowe’s celebration, featuring the World’s Shortest Marathon, a bouncy house, a BBQ, “seven miles of tent sales,” mountain bike tours, live music, and many more events culminating with a fabulous fireworks display from the Mayo Farm at dusk.

Waterbury — June 27 - Independence Day Celebration features a parade down Main Street at 11:00 a.m. with the theme “Classic Movies” and a full day of festivities with food, vendors, games and more at the State Office Complex.

Killington July 4 - July 4th Celebration & Fireman’s BBQ
The 4th of July Celebration and Fireman's BBQ is one of the most popular events of the summer! All day long enjoy the wonderful food cooked by the Fire Department and other volunteers. During the afternoon, enjoy fun filled games and entertainment. Bring a picnic blanket and be prepared to stay all day long. http://www.killingtontown.com/

Plymouth Notch — July 4 - President Calvin Coolidge Birthday Celebration
Commemorate the birthday of the only president born on Independence Day at the President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site. At noon, march with members of the VT National Guard from the village green to the cemetery where a wreath from the White House is laid at the President’s grave site. A chicken barbecue follows at the Wilder Restaurant.

Warren —
July 4 - The 61st Annual Warren 4th of July Celebration
For many visitors and Vermonters alike, this event, one of largest individual 4th of July celebrations in the state, is a must-see, must-do event! Festivities begin with the wild and wacky parade along Main Street at 10 a.m. Get there early to stake out your spot. Woodstock – July 4 – Old Vermont 4th at the Billings Farm & Museum

Bennington July 4 - Old Time 4th Celebration and Reading of the Declaration of Independence
Celebrate the Fourth of July with old time fun on the lawn of the Bennington Monument with colonial music, games, and activities for children. Wilmington — July 4 - The 32nd Annual 4th of July Mount Snow Area Fireworks
