Making Lasting Memories

A Vermont family getaway or vacation is a great way to create the perfect environment for building strong bonds and lasting memories.

Families today often find that while they are spending more time together than ever, it isn’t the ‘quality time’ they so desperately need. With kids now more over-programmed than their parents, much of the family’s time is spent in transit from one activity to the next. Lives are being filled up with events, but not necessarily experiences.

A Vermont family getaway or vacation is a great solution to this dilemma because Vermont is all about creating experiences. Spectacular natural beauty, peace and quiet, and endless recreational opportunities work together to create the perfect environment for building strong bonds and lasting memories. Maybe your experience will start with a hike along the Long Trail, the oldest long-distance hiking trail in the United States, which follows the main ridge of the Green Mountains as it crosses Vermont's highest peaks. Or maybe you’ll choose to hike in the Green Mountain Forest which covers more than 400,000 acres across two thirds the length of Vermont.

Perhaps instead you will build your memories camping out at one of our more than 50 state parks where you can spend your days canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, or just hanging out and relaxing. As you venture out to explore Vermont’s countryside, you might choose to visit one of our many farms open to the public. On our farms you can do everything from get to know the animals to pick your own fruits and vegetables for that evening’s dinner.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you might want to experience the thrill of a balloon or glider ride, learn how to rock climb at one of our climbing centers, go screaming downhill on one of our alpine slides, or bike your way along one of Vermont’s great trails or back roads.

You’ll also find outstanding opportunities to learn at places like the Vermont Institute of Natural Science (VINS) Nature Center, ECHO: Lake Aquarium and Science Center, the Fairbanks Museum, the Bennington Museum, or one of Vermont’s great historic sites.

An experience of a lifetime is waiting for you here in Vermont. All you have to do is come find it.
