Woodstock, Vermont 

In Vermont’s Upper Connecticut River Valley region, Woodstock is a year-round destination. The Middle covered bridge traverses a branch of the Ottauquechee River downtown and mounts Tom and Peg score the downtown’s skyline. Winter brings plenty of opportunities for recreation, from fat biking and Nordic skiing to downhill skiing at Saskadena Six, one of the oldest ski areas in the country with a well-known ski school and a fun après scene nearby. In the summer, trails open up surrounding Quechee Gorge, Vermont’s “Little Grand Canyon,” formed by glacial activity 13,000 years ago.

Saskadena Six

One of the oldest ski areas in the country, America’s oldest uphill ski conveyance was introduced in Woodstock in 1934. Visit to ski or ride in the winter and mountain bike in the summer.

In the summer, mountain bike or hike 25 trails, which open in the winter for cross-country and backcountry skiing and snowshoeing.

Attraction Spotlight

Vermont Institute of Natural Science

See species of raptors from all over the U.S. at VINS, which focuses on wild bird conservation and rehabilitation. The fully accessible Forest Canopy Walk takes people of all ages and ability levels on a slowly rising boardwalk tour of the forest. Take in incredible views of the Ottauquechee River from the height of a bald eagle’s nest. The on-site songbird aviary offers a place for peace and calm.

Woodstock Wassail Weekend

An old-fashioned winter holiday celebration in the heart of downtown Woodstock, featuring chestnuts roasting on open fires, a visit from Santa Claus, a Victorian horse and carriage parade, and caroling.
