Sometimes Overlooked, Never Underappreciated

A HISTORIC DOWNTOWN

Windsor has one of the most beautiful locations in New England. Along the Connecticut River, and beneath Mount Ascutney, Windsor is where history and scenic beauty come together. With two lakes downtown and cycling and hiking opportunities right outside your door, it offers the perfect opportunity for enjoying the outdoors in every season.

The longest two-span covered bridge in America provides access to Windsor, the quintessential Vermont town. Over 360 buildings are included in the Historic District, making this treasure-trove of architectural history one of the largest Historic Districts in Vermont. The Constitution House is where Vermont started, while the American Precision Museum teaches the origins of industry and manufacturing in America.

For dining, simple meals at the traditional stainless steel Windsor Diner or more formal dinner and music at the restored Windsor Station Restaurant are just two options. Arabella Gallery displays the works of regional artists, while the surrounding hills are home to a number of resident artists of all media.

Not far from downtown, the See it Made Park lets you watch artisans blowing glass and making pottery at Simon Pearce. Sample the latest brews and have a bite to eat at Harpoon Brewery and Silo Distillery. While visiting the park, Sustainable Farmer offers cheeses and other Vermont-made products.

Windsor is accessible by train on Amtrak's Vermonter line, which now offers carry-on bike service. Click here to see local travel details and amenities that support a car-free vacation for train travelers.
