Among the picturesque rolling hills and farmlands of central Vermont’s Addison County is Vergennes, Vermont’s first city and its smallest. Located along the banks of Otter Creek and in the shadows of Snake Mountain, Vergennes is home to a historic opera house and a bustling Main Street.

Local Transportation
Amtrak’s Vergennes station isn’t within accessible walking distance of downtown Vergennes, so plan ahead for your taxi pickup from Small City Taxi or Uber or Lyft drivers, both of which operate in Vergennes. Bus services such as Tri-Valley Transit and Vermont Translines for regional connections or Greyhound for national transit also use the Amtrak station. Since their schedules may not accommodate night service, it’s best to check schedules ahead of time.
